fasting month..

Alhamdulillah..

Tonight, me and a couple of friends from Indonesia just finished ‘teraweh’ praying in Mushola (praying room, multi-faith centre) at Griffith University, Nathan Campus.. Although it wasnt crowded as in my home country, Indonesia, and the information of when we started fasting was a little bit late and rushed, but we still have the spirit of Ramadhan.. and the teraweh time flew so sacretly..

So.. this month of September, all moslem in all over the world will have to fasting a whole month until 31st of September.. and will celebrate Ramadhan on the 1st of October. We fasting because our God told us to fasting. We pray 5 times a day because our God told us to do so. God created us so it is our obligation to obey Him. Do what He told to and away from what He forbid to.

This is my first time, fasting away from home away from Jakarta.. I know this will be hard for me, but this is my choice. I have God and also moslem friends here in Brisbane.. I hope i can do all teraweh n fasting smoothly without any trouble.. amiiinnn

So…for all moslems in all over the world, i just wn say ‘happy fasting’.. minal aidin wal faidzin..

library..

 

i will spend all my time in this place.. definitely

i was excited when my flat mate, hansel, took me to this place.. 

well to be honest, i never seen any library like this before in jakarta..  the library is so big n so tidy n so well organized.. (ndeso )

and what make this library so interesting is that they have something like HELP services for the student called english help. This media is very useful especially for the international student like me.. so i can learn how to write, how to speak in english. The programs are English for Postgraduate Studies, English for Business Studies, English for Health and Medical Studies, and English for Engineering and IT Studies. Not only that, all for FREE. All you have to do is just come to the library. But it would be better if you have a group of studies, you can arrange your scheduled for 45 minutes appointments.. im going to the library tomorrow for sure and i will tell you the details next time okay..

it’s quite different studying here in Brisbane than in Jakarta..

the teachers here give us a lot of writing tasks.. discussions.. n presentations.. in every meeting..

and they keep giving that even if we havent done yet..

well..the first week was okay..

the second week was panic..

but if anyone can do it then i can do it as well as them..

the crow..

one thing that i notice the most when i got to brisbane, here in my flat, is the morning crow.. well, every morning some crows do wake me up because of their sounds.. which is good for me coz i have to do ’sholat shubuh’ (morning praying) everyday.. i was a little bit scared at first, but now they have become the very important part of my life here in brisbane..

it is not like an usual scary crow that you have seen on tv.. but it is beautiful birds with back and white colours.. i took some pictures of them this morning..

my flat mate always give them food such as bread, rice, and even meat.. so that’s the reason why they always fly around our flat and light upon our balcony.. these are the pictures.. i love them very much..

have you ever been to china town before?.. well, there is china town here in brisbane, near the city..

i went there by a bus with friends.. nice place, full of interesting object to be pictured..

i found a fishing pond there.. and there has a lot of coins inside.. In china beliefs, if we put coins there while wishing, then your wish might be come true.. hmm, isnt that good?..:D

well.. you dont have to trust me.. it’s only one of the china beliefs.. but you might try that, coz i already put a coin of Rp.500,- in it.. we will see, i hope my wish does come true again this time..

i went to the city yesterday in Brisbane..

i like the view.. actually i like taking pictures very much..

too bad i only took these pictures from bus.. havent got the chance to go around the city..:(

Tips before going abroad

well..here i am in australia.. brisbane exactly..

actually it’s only my childhood dream to study abroad.. i am so grateful that i have this chance.. so watch out to your dreams, coz sometimes it might be come true..

i have been in brisbane for a week.. i traveled by airplane, jakarta-singapore-brisbane.. i went on friday 25th December 2008 at 4pm and arrived in brisbane on saturday 26th December 2008 at 10am.. it was a tired day..

because this was my very first trip abroad, so there were lotz of things happenned at the jakarta airport.. i gave you some tips based on my experience before you going abroad, especially for study..

1. Do NOT bring too many stuff.. or you will have to pay the excess baggage, and the fee isn’t that cheap.. 1 kg = 22 USD.. you just have to bring your clothes and your laptop.. that’s it.. checked and reviewed what all the things you would need the most.. get the list, dont bring junks.. the limit baggage is about 30 kg per person. But you can get extra baggage if you’re in a group..
2. Do NOT bring any kind of food or you have to be checked in brisbane.. they will not let you to bring any kind of food (even abon).. but you may bring instan cooking spices or flavor such as bawang putih, nasi goreng, etc).. it would be very helpful especially for people who dont like to cook, like me.. you may bring coffee or tea also.. but it will be checked..
3. Bring all of your sertificates of graduate school or courses.. dont bring heavy books.. if you can, just put all the data to your laptop..
4. Do NOT forget to bring money.. coz for the first month you will need some money to survive.. the first two weeks would be the hardest days..
5. Bring Rp.1.000.000,- for paying the viskal.. they dont take dollars, only rupiah..
6. Go to the airport early.. You must be at the airport at least 1 hour before boarding, so you wont be in a rush.. and because you have to be in line to pay the administration such as viskal..
7. Spend time with your family and boy/girl friend before you going..  otherwise you will get homesick easily..
8. Do NOT forget to bring UNIVERSAL ADAPTOR.. coz in most countries, they have different stab for cables..
9. The last but not least.. i think you should bring a pack of cigarrettes.. if you dont smoke, you can give it to your friends there.. because cigarrettes become a valuable things there in other country.. coz it’s expensive..
10. Make sure that you have told the people from university all about your flight and time arrival.. Write the complete address incase if they not pick you up..
